Xavier Worthy made sure one young Kansas City Chiefs fan left the team’s final day of training camp with something much bigger than an autograph.
The Chiefs wrapped up their 2026 training camp Thursday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri, bringing another summer of practices in front of their fans to a close. While Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the rest of the roster made their final trip down the familiar hill, Worthy created one of the day’s most memorable moments away from the football field.
The Chiefs wide receiver surprised a young fan by giving him an Xbox, an unexpected gesture that quickly attracted attention on social media.
It was quite the way for Worthy to say goodbye to St. Joseph.
Xavier Worthy Surprises Young Chiefs Fan
Taylor Burris of KSHB 41 captured the interaction Thursday as Worthy presented the young fan with the gift.
The moment came as the Chiefs completed their 18th and final full-team training camp practice. Kansas City worked in shells Thursday following three consecutive practices in full pads.
For players, the end of camp means returning to Kansas City and moving another step closer to the regular season.
For the young fan Worthy surprised, however, the final practice became a day he probably won’t forget.
Fan interaction has long been part of the atmosphere surrounding Chiefs camp in St. Joseph. Players routinely sign autographs and interact with supporters after practices, but Worthy went considerably further Thursday.
Chiefs Turn Attention Toward Buccaneers
Worthy’s gesture came as Kansas City officially closed an important stage of its preparation for the 2026 season.
The Chiefs now turn their attention toward Saturday’s preseason matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Andy Reid announced Thursday that Mahomes will not play, while Justin Fields is expected to handle quarterback duties into the second quarter.
Worthy has dealt with his own adversity during camp. The former first-round pick missed practice time earlier in August, including multiple padded sessions.
Kansas City will be counting on Worthy to play an important role once the regular season begins. His speed has been one of the defining traits of his game since the Chiefs selected him with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
There will be plenty of attention on what Worthy does on the field when the games begin to count.
On the final morning in St. Joseph, though, Worthy’s most notable moment had nothing to do with catching a football.
It was about making one young Chiefs fan’s day.
