The Kansas City Chiefs got a double scare in practice today when not one, but two of their wide receivers had to come off early with injuries - both of which looked nasty at the time. Thankfully, the news has been nothing but good for them over the past few hours.
Chiefs wide receivers Xavier Worthy sustained a shoulder injury during practice. That injury occurred nearly at the same time that Chiefs rookie Cyrus Allen went down with a scary-looking leg injury.
But according to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter, neither one of them broke anything or even suffered an injury of real consequence. Rapoport reported that Worthy's shoulder is believed to be fine, while Schefter found that Allen's injury was nothing more than a shin bruise.
"Tests on Chiefs rookie WR Cyrus Allen revealed a shin bruise, per source. Nothing was torn or broken - a best-case scenario," Schefter wrote.
"In addition to this positive injury news, Xavier Worthy (shoulder) is believed to be OK," Rapoport wrote.
Relief in KC
To say that the Chiefs need some good news at wide receiver is a bit of an understatement. Wideout was a problem for the team last year, as none could even hit 600 yards on the season. Worthy was one of only two wide receivers on the team to top 500 yards and the other, Marquise Brown, now plays for the Eagles.
Simply put, the Chiefs need their receivers to be healthy if they want to avoid having to go with inexperienced or fringe players for key stretches of their season.

On the plus side, the Chiefs are bringing back star tight end Travis Kelce for a 14th season and if he can improve even a little on last season, the Chiefs should be alright at that key position on offense.
After missing the playoffs in 2025, the Chiefs are going to find getting back in harder than ever now that their division is catching up to them. The rival Chargers and Broncos both made the playoffs last year while the Raiders seem ready to start climbing now that they have a new coach and QB in place.
Can the Chiefs get back to the playoffs or even the Super Bowl with their current receivers?
