The Kansas City Chiefs enter their Week 5 bye at 4-0, but injuries to wide receivers Tyquan Thornton and Rashee Rice have created uncertainty at receiver.
Kansas City has already shown interest in reuniting with free-agent wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes made it clear he would welcome the possibility.
“I have no idea [if that would happen], but it’d be pretty cool,” Mahomes said, per The Athletic’s Michael Silver.
Hill, meanwhile, added to the intrigue after Thornton suffered a dislocated left ankle, posting a one-word message on X: “Hm.”
According to Silver, the Chiefs are “very interested” in bringing Hill back and have contacted his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. ESPN’s Nate Taylor reported that Kansas City had interest in signing Hill even before Sunday’s injuries.
“Even before the injuries to Thornton and fellow receiver Rashee Rice on Sunday, the Chiefs had already shown interest in signing wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who is a free agent,” Taylor reported. “Following Sunday’s game, a team source said ‘we’ve remained in contact’ with Hill and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus.”
Thornton was carted off after making a 55-yard catch in the fourth quarter of Kansas City’s 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that team doctors put the ankle back into place.
The Chiefs consider Thornton out indefinitely, while Rice also left Sunday’s game with a right hamstring injury and did not return.
