Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has faced—and succeeded against—some of the best pass rushers of his generation. The list includes Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby, whom he has faced 14 times in his career.
The Chiefs traveled to Allegiant Stadium on Sunday and secured a 30-27 win. The three-time Super Bowl champion drew strong words from the veteran defensive end after their rivalry showdown.
Crosby recognized Mahomes as one of the best in the game. He added that he, too, wants to be viewed the same way at his position.
“It’s respect, bro,” Crosby said. “He’s the best quarterback of our generation, you know what I mean?
“And for me, I want to be looked at as the best at my position. When you have two division rivals willing to go to the farthest extent to win, it makes for great entertainment and great competition.”
Mahomes completed 15 of 30 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns. While he did not have the most efficient game, the 31-year-old delivered winning plays to keep the Chiefs’ perfect record intact. They now sit at 4-0 and are one of just three remaining undefeated teams. He also moved to 19th all-time in touchdown passes.
Meanwhile, Crosby received credit for half a sack against Mahomes, increasing his season total to 2.0. The two-time All-Pro EDGE will remain the focal point of Las Vegas’ defense.
Kansas City will enjoy a bye in Week 5 before it returns to action on Oct. 18. They will host the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 6.
The 3-1 Raiders, on the other hand, will visit the New England Patriots on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
