The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off one of their worst years in recent memory in the 2025 season. Kansas City finished the year with a 6-11 record, missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2014 season. This came after the Chiefs had made the Super Bowl five of the previous six years, including three Lombardi Trophies.
Six-time Pro Bowl quarterback Patrick Mahomes did not live up to his usual sky-high standards, completing 62.7% of his passes, which was the worst of his career, for 3,587 yards and 22 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.
Mahomes missed the final three games of the year after he tore his ACL and LCL in his left knee during a game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 14.

Mahomes' supporting cast on offense in 2025 was not the highlight of Kansas City's team. Tight end Travis Kelce was the Chiefs' leading receiver with 851 yards and five touchdowns.
However, Kansas City did not have a wide receiver tally more than 587 receiving yards. Hollywood Brown had the highest total in the receiver room, followed by Rashee Rice, with 571 yards, and Xavier Worthy, who had 532.
With Brown now with the Philadelphia Eagles, and Rice and Worthy not being the consistent threat they've been looking for, the Chiefs may need to look for a talented, young receiver to add to the mix.
On Tuesday, ESPN's Field Yates released his updated 2026 NFL Mock Draft, projecting the Chiefs to select Arizona State Sun Devils wideout Jordyn Tyson with the ninth overall pick.
"The Chiefs are in desperate need of more big-play receivers, as Xavier Worthy hasn't been a consistent sparkplug for them the past two seasons," Yates said. "Tyson is the most explosive wide receiver in the draft and neck and neck with Carnell Tate for WR1 in my rankings. He has very good size, acceleration, unique run-after-catch skills and field-stretching ability."
Tyson began his collegiate career with the Colorado Buffaloes before spending his final three years with Arizona State.
"Tyson dealt with a hamstring injury in 2025 and previously suffered a broken collarbone and ACL tear, but he changes an offense when healthy," Yates continued. "He had 50 catches, 732 yards and six touchdowns in the final six games of the 2024 season."
In his career, Tyson recorded 158 receptions for 2,282 yards and 22 touchdowns. With a spark needed to jumpstart the Chiefs' offense in 2026, Tyson may be exactly what head coach Andy Reid and Kansas City are looking for.
