The Kansas City Chiefs are trying to retool their offense after a disappointing 2025 campaign, which ended with a 6-11 record. The need to repurpose the offense became clear after their pass offense only produced 3,639 yards and 23 touchdowns.

What made the situation worse for the Chiefs Kingdom was Patrick Mahomes' torn ACL late in the Chiefs' 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on December 14. Kansas City hasn't provided a clear timeline on Mahomes' return, so finding a capable backup who can hold the line until the 30-year-old signal caller makes it back to the rotation is a top priority for Andy Reid and Brett Veach.

While the 2026 QB market doesn't look particularly appealing, one man is being linked to the Chiefs that might make things exciting if it works out.

Kansas City Chiefs Tipped to Land Giants QB Russell Wilson

Fox Sports' Greg Auman published a list of the top 100 free agents of the 2026 class alongside his predictions on where they'll end up. He revealed that Russell Wilson might be the man under center for the Chiefs until Mahomes is back to full health.

Auman is banking on Wilson's 2024 performance for the Pittsburgh Steelers as the factor that would convince the Chiefs to sign the Super Bowl XLVIII winner.

"Go back to 2024, he had 16 touchdowns against five interceptions while going 6-5 for the Steelers, and that's the hope for a team that brings him in as a stopgap," he wrote.

Mr. Unlimited had a horrible run in his lone year with the Giants. He threw for 831 yards on 58% completion, three touchdowns and three interceptions before making way for Jaxson Dart.
