The Kansas City Chiefs have made two big moves to clear up some cap space.

The Chiefs, who failed to reach the playoffs last year, are looking to restructure their roster heading into the 2026 season. Andy Reid is returning, as is Patrick Mahomes, and the Chiefs are bringing former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy back, as well.

But the Chiefs will need to build out some help around them.

Heading into the 2026 season, the Chiefs have made two big roster moves to clear up $50 million in cap space.

The Chiefs are cutting veteran defensive lineman Mike Danna. The move is clearing up close to $10 million in cap space.

"The #Chiefs are releasing veteran DE Mike Danna, clearing $8.9M in cap space. He started 49 games in six years, recorded 21.5 sacks, and won two Super Bowls," Ari Meirov reported.

It's the second big roster move for the Chiefs

Earlier this offseason, the Chiefs restructured Patrick Mahomes' contract, clearing up more than $40 million in cap space.

The Chiefs are now close to being cap compliant.

"The #Chiefs restructured Patrick Mahomes’ contract, creating $43.56M in cap space. Now they released Mike Danna to clear another $8.9M. They are now close to being cap compliant, with more moves coming as a big offseason looms," Ari Meirov shared.

The Chiefs could be looking to make a big roster addition this offseason.
