Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had a special surprise waiting for one of his defensive leaders during a team meeting on Monday. Instead of discussing football, Reid took a moment to recognize linebacker Nick Bolton with news that celebrated his accomplishments long before he became a two-time Super Bowl champion.
Speaking in front of the Chiefs squad, Reid announced that Bolton will be inducted into the University of Missouri Athletic Hall of Fame, drawing cheers from teammates and an emotional reaction from the veteran linebacker.
The moment quickly spread across social media, highlighting the respect Bolton has earned both at Missouri and throughout his NFL career. For Reid, who proudly reminded everyone of his own ties to Missouri, it was a memorable way to honor one of the cornerstones of Kansas City's defense.
Andy Reid Delivered The Surprise In Front Of The Team
Reid opened the announcement by reminding everyone about his own connection to the University of Missouri.
"You guys all know I'm a Missouri Tiger at heart," Reid said. "We have one that's really famous at the University of Missouri. We know him as a team guy. The ultimate team guy. But today, you are going to get an individual award. Nick Bolton. You're going into the University of Missouri Athletic Hall of Fame."
The team immediately erupted in applause as Bolton smiled while taking in the unexpected honor.
Bolton Reacted To The Meaningful Recognition
After the announcement, Bolton reflected on what the honor meant to him and the place that helped shape his football career.
"Yeah, it's just an honor," Bolton said. "The state, the city from Columbia all the way to Kansas City, it's kind of been my home, been my home and my peace. MIZ baby!"
Bolton starred at Missouri from 2018 through 2020, earning first-team All-SEC honors twice while also being named a second-team All-American during his final collegiate season.
He finished his Tigers career with 220 total tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and two interceptions before declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft.
Bolton Has Become A Chiefs Defensive Leader
The Chiefs selected Bolton in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and he immediately became one of the league's most productive linebackers.
Since arriving in Kansas City, Bolton has totaled 612 tackles, six sacks, five interceptions and three fumble recoveries while helping the Chiefs win Super Bowls LVII and LVIII.
One of the signature moments of his career came in Super Bowl LVII, when he recovered a Jalen Hurts fumble and returned it for a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Earlier this offseason, the Chiefs reaffirmed Bolton's importance by signing him to a three-year, $45 million contract extension.
Now, before the 2026 season even begins, Bolton has added another milestone to his résumé with a place in the University of Missouri Athletic Hall of Fame.
