Chris Jones and the Kansas City Chiefs moved to 5-0 on the 2026 NFL season after a 22-6 Week 6 win over Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers. Now, the Chiefs have turned their attention to Week 7, looking to remain undefeated as they hit the road to face Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks on “Sunday Night Football.”
Early in the second quarter, Kansas City defensive end Ashton Gillotte picked up a roughing the passer penalty after hitting Herbert late, despite it appearing that the Chargers quarterback may have flopped his way into the call. Jones also picked up a roughing the passer penalty late in the fourth quarter during Los Angeles’ final drive of the game.
As it does every week, the NFL will review each play from Week 6 and determine if a fine should be handed out, including the two roughing the passer calls against the Chiefs. While no fines for roughing the passer have been given out so far this season, players can be fined $17,911 for a first roughing the passer penalty, which can increase to $23,882 upon a second violation.

Jones is well aware that the league has taken notice of his roughing the passer and plans to file an appeal against the call. But when it comes to the penalty on Gillotte, the defensive tackle hopes the NFL will take inspiration from the NBA, which started fining players for flopping during the 2012-13 season.
On Thursday, Jones hit the podium for the Chiefs media availability, defending his case against his roughing the passer while hoping the NFL fines Herbert for flopping instead of Gillotte.
“I don’t wanna say I earned it,” Jones said. “I got an appeal coming up… You know, I grabbed him and landed on the side. And I just hope the league can see that I tried to land on the side. Maybe I was a second late, but they say two steps and then clearance. So we gonna look at the film and I’ll ask that.
“And you take Ashton’s, he stopped and the quarterback flopped. I think the next progression of that is when you make those type of calls, then being able to go look at the film as a ref, and to be able to pull that flag back up when you see that there’s flopping. You know, the NBA came up with a rule for flopping. They’ll fine the opposing player for flopping.”
Jones and the Chiefs will face the Seahawks on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET.
