The Kansas City Chiefs entered training camp looking to build momentum ahead of a new season, with Patrick Mahomes once again leading an offense expected to be among the NFL's best.

A big part of that will be the continued development of wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who is entering another year with the team after showing flashes of his playmaking ability early in his career.

That made Saturday's practice a concern after Worthy went down with a shoulder injury and was unable to finish the session. The Chiefs spent the next couple of days waiting for more clarity before coach Andy Reid addressed his status.

Speaking to reporters from training camp in St. Joseph on Monday, Reid said the injury does not appear to be a long-term issue.

“Xavier has a shoulder sprain. Again, could be a few days... we’ll see how that goes,” Reid said.

Worthy has become an important part of Kansas City's offense since arriving as a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Last season, he appeared in 14 games and caught 42 of his 73 targets for 532 yards and one touchdown.

He also finished with 638 yards and scored nine total touchdowns, including three on the ground. The update comes at a time when the Chiefs are already managing injuries at the position.

Rookie Cyrus Allen remains sidelined, with Reid saying he is still a day or two away from returning to practice.

A longer absence for Worthy would have left Kansas City thin at wide receiver during camp and increased the workload for players such as Rashee Rice, Tyquan Thornton, Jalen Royals and Nikko Remigio.

Instead, Reid's latest update suggests the Chiefs may only be without one of their top playmakers for a few days as preparations for the new season continue.
