Rashee Rice watched on as the Kansas City Chiefs jumped to 5-0 on the 2026 NFL season after taking down Justin Herbert and the winless Los Angeles Chargers in a Week 6 AFC West battle. Now, the Chiefs will be heading West to face the defending Super Bowl champion, taking on Jaxon Smith-Njigba and the Seattle Seahawks.
Playing in four games so far during his fourth NFL season, Rice has remained one of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets. The former SMU Mustangs wide receiver has tallied 13 catches for 190 yards and one touchdown. But in the first quarter of the Week 4 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, Rice left the game early after suffering a right hamstring injury.
After the Chiefs’ Week 5 bye, Rice was still forced to miss the game against the Chargers due to his hamstring injury. And leading up to the Week 7 matchup against the Seahawks, Rice was again held out of practice before officially being ruled out.

With Rice set to miss a second straight game, along with Tyquan Thornton expected to miss multiple months with an ankle fracture, Kansas City elected to sign practice squad wide receiver Andrew Armstrong to the 53-man roster. The Chiefs also re-signed running back Nate Carter to the practice squad after calling up Jaydn Ott.
Armstrong, after spending his college career with Texas A&M-Commerce and Arkansas, went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft before signing with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent. His Dolphins tenure was short-lived, getting cut before his rookie season before joining the Detroit Lions’ practice squad for a week.
But in January, Armstrong signed a reserve/future contract with Kansas City, earning a spot on the practice squad for the 2026 season. And Armstrong was able to make his NFL debut against Los Angeles, tallying one catch for 13 yards.
“The Chiefs have signed practice squad WR Andrew Armstrong to the 53-man roster,” A to Z Sports’ Charles Goldman wrote on X. “They re-signed RB Nate Carter to the practice squad.”
The Chiefs will take on the Seahawks on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET.
