Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that Trey Smith’s injury isn’t serious and expects him to be ready at the start of the season.
On Friday, the Kansas City guard didn’t participate in the team’s practice ahead of their preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams on Aug. 15.
During his media availability at training camp, Reid said Smith is dealing with a hip injury but noted it was nothing serious.
“The one positive is it’s nothing that these guys aren’t coming back from,” Reid said.
Also, several reports confirm that the team has sent him to a specialist as a precaution.
The former Tennessee star has been a crucial member of the team since 2021 when they drafted him in the sixth round.
Smith was also a crucial member of the Chiefs when they won back-to-back Super Bowls in 2023 and 2024 against the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, respectively.

During the same media availability, the Chiefs’ head tactician also mentioned that they’re easing things on their rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen.
He suffered a shin injury earlier this month at the start of the team’s training camp, where he showed flashes of brilliance.
Fortunately, Reid and Kansas City expect him to return and continue competing for a roster role before they kick off their season on Sept. 14 against the Denver Broncos.
The team’s superstar quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, is also expected to be ready for Week 1, which is just nine months after he suffered ACL and LCL injuries in December.
With a fully healthy roster, Kansas City looks to improve its 6-11 record from last year and return to the postseason.
