DiJonai Carrington has been playing well this year despite missing a huge chunk of the season due to injuries. The 5-foot-11 guard signed with the Chicago Sky in the winter after spending the 2025 season with the Dallas Wings and Minnesota Lynx.
However, she missed the first 27 games of the campaign because of a foot injury she picked up last year. Despite that, she has been a key player for the Sky, currently averaging 9.7 points and 3.3 rebounds.
Unfortunately, Chicago has struggled this year and is now officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 15-23 record.
Before turning professional, Carrington played most of her collegiate basketball at Stanford, then transferred to Baylor for her final season. At Stanford, she played with 5-foot-8 guard Kiana Williams.
Unlike Carrington, Williams has spent no more than two seasons with a WNBA team. In her five-year career, she has played with the Seattle Storm, Connecticut Sun, Phoenix Mercury and Los Angeles Sparks.
Williams started the season with the Sparks, but was released after 13 games. On Sunday, she signed a seven-day extreme hardship contract with the Toronto Tempo.
Carrington expressed her support for her college teammate. She shared the Tempo’s announcement post on her Instagram story, along with her reaction.
“💜💜💜💜💜💜,” the 2024 WNBA Most Improved Player wrote in the caption.
Toronto currently has a multitude of injuries, which paved the way for them to sign Williams. The seven-day extreme hardship contract allows teams to sign a temporary replacement player.
Williams now gets an opportunity to prove her worth as she looks to secure her future in the WNBA.
