Angel Reese’s time with the Chicago Sky has officially come to an end. The two‑time All‑Star is headed to the Atlanta Dream in a blockbuster WNBA trade, with Chicago receiving Atlanta’s 2027 and 2028 first‑round draft picks in exchange, along with the Dream retaining the right to swap second‑round picks in 2028, per ESPN’s Kendra Andrews.
Reese, taken seventh overall by Chicago in the 2024 WNBA Draft, immediately made an impact. Across two seasons she averaged 14.1 points and 12.9 rebounds in 64 games, led the league in rebounding, and earned All‑Star honors in back‑to‑back years. Her elite production was a constant in Chicago despite the Sky’s struggles to win consistently.

The Sky failed to translate her impressive performances to team success. They finished with the worst record in the league at 10-34 last season and missed the playoffs for the second straight year.
Soon after news of the trade broke, the Sky posted a message thanking Reese: “thank you for everything you gave to Chicago🤍.”
However, the post prompted sharp fan backlash across social platforms
“I hate you YOU ALL‼️‼️ can’t believe you fumbled our biggest STAR‼️😭😭 I’m moving to ATLANTA‼️‼️,” one fan wrote.
“This organization is a joke,” another fan added.
“Supremely goofy of yall,” a third fan posted.
“You are dead to me now!” another fan mentioned.
“You betrayed your own fanbase by letting Angel Reese walk,” one fan remarked.
“I am done with the sky done,” another fan said.
Tensions between Reese and the organization became public towards the end of the 2025 campaign. In a Chicago Tribune interview, she criticized the roster and expressed frustration with the team’s direction, comments that led to a suspension from the team. While it’s unclear if this incident played a role in the trade, the latest move signals a strained relationship between Reese and the Sky.
In Atlanta, Reese joins a roster that features proven talent and depth, including All‑Stars like Alisha Gray, Rhyne Howard and potentially Brittney Griner.
This gives her a clearer path to compete for postseason success. The Dream finished with the third best record in the WNBA last season and now add one of the WNBA’s premier interior players to an already solid core.
For the Sky, however, they are tending toward a long-term rebuild after trading away a franchise cornerstone for draft capital.
