Tyler Marsh and the Chicago Sky have struggled to get much going during the 2026 WNBA season, falling to 15-25 after the loss to Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty on August 29. Now, as the WNBA break for the 2026 FIBA World Cup continues, the Sky will await their next matchup on Sept. 17, hosting Sonia Citron and the Washington Mystics.
After trading away forward Angel Reese before the beginning of the season, Chicago has been unable to find a good replacement for her. Newcomer Rickea Jackson was supposed to fill that void, but an ACL tear early in 2026 ended her first year with the Sky after just four games.
And with Chicago already eliminated from playoff contention, the Sky elected to bring in fan-favorite Kate Martin on a developmental contract.

Since joining the WNBA in 2024, Martin has bounced around the league, including stints with the Las Vegas Aces, Golden State Valkyries and, most recently, the Los Angeles Sparks. In 17 games with the Sparks, the former Iowa guard averaged 2.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in 7.1 minutes per game, before she was waived in late August.
But with just four games remaining in the 2026 WNBA season for the Sky, Martin could see some extended playing time. And Marsh is certainly happy with the addition of the guard, commenting on Martin’s playstyle on Wednesday.
“I love Kate,” Marsh said. “In any capacity, just having someone as tough and selfless as she is fits right into the mold of what we want this team to be about. So, even in a development role, we want to have her around. She belongs in this league.”
Martin could get her first chance with Chicago as the Sky host the Mystics on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 8 p.m. ET.
