The Chicago Bears lost some depth to their defensive line before their Week 5 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bears learned Monday that defensive end Marcus Davenport has retired mid-season. He apparently asked for his release from the Bears after their Week 4 win over the New York Jets.
Davenport, a former first-round pick from UTSA, recorded a tackle on Sunday against the Jets. Although he’s only 30 years old, he has decided to hang up his cleats before the heart of Chicago’s schedule begins.
The Bears have not yet released a statement on Davenport’s retirement.

Injuries limited Davenport’s career.
The New Orleans Saints selected Davenport with the 14th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. They were hoping he’d take their defense to the next level. Unfortunately, injuries prevented him from reaching his full potential.
Despite having stints with the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings, Davenport was never able to reach his full potential.
Davenport ultimately appeared in 78 career games, racking up 166 tackles, 71 QB hits, 25 sacks and seven forced fumbles.
