The Los Angeles Chargers received an update on Ladd McConkey as they prepare for Sunday’s matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. The wide receiver was limited at Wednesday’s practice with a foot injury, the team’s report showed.
McConkey did not play a snap in the Chargers’ 23-17 loss to the Denver Broncos, despite being active. His return to practice is encouraging, but the limited designation leaves his Week 6 availability uncertain.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh said McConkey was available only for an emergency against Denver because the team did not want to risk using him before he was ready. The receiver missed practice throughout the previous week with the foot issue.
McConkey’s health matters to a Chargers offense searching for answers at 0-5. Justin Herbert threw for 121 yards against Denver and was intercepted late as the Broncos rallied for the 23-17 victory.
The receiving group faces other setbacks. Tre’ Harris did not practice Wednesday with a hamstring injury, while Quentin Johnston was limited by a chest issue. KeAndre Lambert-Smith was also limited with a hamstring injury after being designated to return from injured reserve.
McConkey caught 12 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown through the first four games, giving Herbert a reliable target when available. His absence has added to the challenge of finding consistency in the passing game.

The Chargers now face an undefeated Kansas City team on the road. Getting McConkey closer to full participation would help, but Wednesday’s limited session does not guarantee he will be ready Sunday.
Harbaugh and the medical staff have more opportunities to assess the receiver before making a final game-status decision. His workload over the next two days should clarify whether he can return to the lineup.
McConkey’s progress is encouraging, but Los Angeles needs a healthier receiving corps soon.
