Jaylen Brown has been the driving force behind the Boston Celtics this season, carrying the load with Jayson Tatum being sidelined for much of the campaign. Tatum, who recently recovered from an ACL injury, has been limited to just nine games. Without the six-time All-Star, Brown has elevated his game, averaging 28.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists, firmly establishing himself as the engine of a Celtics team that currently holds the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.
That impact was on full display Wednesday night when Boston faced Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Celtics secured a 119–109 win, snapping OKC’s 12-game winning streak, with Brown delivering one of his most complete performances of the season. He finished with 31 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, controlling the game on both ends and outdueling one of his primary MVP competitors.

The win further solidified Brown’s place in a tightly contested MVP race that includes Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, and Victor Wembanyama.
After the game, Brown revealed that he studies stars across the league to sharpen his own approach, and he made sure to highlight Doncic’s recent run:
“Luka’s been going crazy. Let’s be honest, that boy Luka is something different… His natural instinct to score the ball is through the roof.”
That praise is well-earned. Doncic dropped 44 points, nine rebounds and five assists against the Pacers on Wednesday, continuing one of the most dominant scoring stretches in the league this season. Over his last 11 games, he is averaging 39.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.3 assists, while leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 10-1 record during that span. That surge has pushed the Lakers to the third seed in the Western Conference with just nine games remaining.
The MVP race remains razor-thin. Brown has carried a top-two seed through injuries, while Doncic is putting together one of the most explosive scoring runs in recent memory.
Regardless of how the voting unfolds, both have built cases that are difficult to ignore, and performances like Wednesday night only make that conversation more compelling.
