Jayson Tatum’s return to the court followed a long recovery from the injury that cut short his previous season. The Boston Celtics forward spent months working his way back before being cleared to begin the new campaign. In his first game back, Tatum recorded 15 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists in 27 minutes against the Dallas Mavericks, and showcased his all-around impact even while operating under a managed workload.
Since then, Tatum has continued to build rhythm as Boston carefully monitors his minutes. Alongside MVP candidate Jaylen Brown, he remains central to the Celtics’ plans for another deep playoff run.

As the Celtics prepare for their next matchup against the league-leading Oklahoma City Thunder, Tatum received recognition away from the court. On Tuesaday, he was named the cover athlete for SLAM Magazine’s Issue 261, with the feature centered on his recovery from injury and pursuit of another championship.
The Celtics reacted to the news shortly after, sharing the cover with the caption, “The gold is everything ✨.”
Tatum’s résumé in Boston continues to grow. Since being drafted in 2017, he has developed into one of the league’s premier forwards, earning six All-Star and five All-NBA selections, while leading the franchise to a title in 2024.
Although his efficiency has understandably declined this season, Tatum continues to make notable contributions for the Celtics. He is currently averaging 19.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists in eight games as the Celtics hold on to the second seed in the Eastern Conference, with 11 games to play.
The organization will continue to manage Tatum’s health while expecting him to lead their push for an unprecedented 19th NBA championship.
The Celtics return to action Wednesday night at TD Garden against the Thunder, with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
