The Cleveland Cavaliers have some work to do if they're going to sign LeBron James for the 2026-27 season.
From the moment James informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he's moving on, Cleveland has been considered the top landing spot for him. Even though he didn't announce his decision at Fanatics Fest, he promised fans that he won't make them wait much longer.
"This is the [fourth] time in my career that I've been a free agent. So, it's a big decision for not only myself, but for my family as well just for the last part of my career and where I want to spend the last few years," James said. "Wherever I go, I will make my staple on just, I'm a natural-born leader. I am going to try to fit in with whatever team I go to but also give them all the tools and give them all the knowledge that I've been able to grasp over the last 23 years. I know the game. I know the ins and outs about the game of basketball."
If Cleveland isn't the right spot for James in the final stage of his career, what is? Apparently, a return to Miami shouldn't be overlooked.

As of this moment, prediction markets have the Miami Heat as the favorites to sign James in free agency. There's been a ton of smoke surrounding a potential reunion.
“You know that I’m from Cleveland, you know my ties there. The more I’ve looked at this and the more I’ve had conversations, the more Miami makes sense to me [for LeBron],” ESPN's Brian Windhorst said. “And now when I hear him thinking about a couple of years, it makes even more sense to me.”
Giannis would gladly welcome LeBron to Miami.
The Heat already made a huge splash this offseason, acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks. Although he's expected to be the face of the franchise moving forward, he's more than willing to share the spotlight with James.
“If there was a scenario for that to happen, I’d be very, very excited,” Antetokounmpo told ESPN. “He’s one of the best players to ever play this game, if not the best. [I’d] be able to learn so much from him. Obviously, brings such a championship experience to the team right from day one. I think he’s still one of the best players in the [game today], if not top 25 [at 41 years old]. You don’t see signs of him slowing down at all. You saw in the playoffs how effective and good he was for the Lakers.”
Heat president Pat Riley has already had discussions with James' camp, so maybe a deal will materialize in the coming days.
