The NBA community received a sad update this Friday regarding the death of Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke.
Clarke, the 21st overall pick from the 2019 NBA Draft, passed away in May at the young age of 29. He spent all seven seasons with the Grizzlies, averaging 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Prior to going pro, he won WCC Newcomer and Defensive Player of the Year at Gonzaga.
“We are beyond devastated by the passing of Brandon Clarke. He was so loved by all of us here, and everyone whose life he touched,” Priority Sports said in May. “He was the gentlest soul who was the first to be there for all of his friends and family. Our hearts are so broken as we think of his mom, Whitney, his entire family, and all of his friends and teammates. From high school to San Jose State to Gonzaga to the Grizzlies, Brandon impacted everyone who was part of his life.”
TMZ Sports learned from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner that Clark died from the effects of heroin and cocaine. His death has been ruled an accident.
"According to the Medical Examiner, Clarke was found unresponsive in his bedroom around 5 PM on May 11. Paramedics responded and pronounced him dead at 5:15 PM," TMZ reported. "His cause and manner of death were officially certified Friday."

NBA world devastated over the loss of Brandon Clarke.
When it was first announced that Clarke passed away, countless fans offered their prayers to the family online.
"So heartbreaking. Wish he was able to get help," one fan said.
"This is heartbreaking news. If the reported details are confirmed, it’s a painful reminder that athletes are people first," a second fan wrote.
"Absolutely heartbreaking. Prayers for BC and his family," another person commented.
Former Grizzlies star Ja Morant paid tribute to his teammate on social media. He posted this message: "This hurt BC. Love you broski. Gone way too soon. It’s bigger than basketball."
