Official causes of death have been announced for the two U.S. hikers found dead.
A 21-year-old hiker from New Jersey and a hiker in California were found dead. The 21-year-old hiker from New Jersey was found dead on Mount Marcy in New York, while the California hiker was found dead on Mount Whitney.
The 21-year-old hiker from New Jersey, identified as Brianna Mohr, of Brick, New Jersey, was found dead, having died from hypothermia.
"An autopsy performed two days after she was found determined Mohr's cause of death to be hypothermia," NJ 4 reported.
"Memorial services for Mohr will be held Feb. 28.
"An obituary posted by a funeral home said Mohr, who was born and raised in Brick and graduated from Brick Memorial High School, 'enjoyed hiking and the outdoors' and had traveled to nearly all 50 states."
In California, an adult male was found dead from a hiking accident, after he continued to go up the mountain late into the night, despite his friend deciding to turn back.
"When the second hiker hadn't returned by Monday morning, the Inyo County Sheriff's Office was contacted and, SAR says, it began searching using a half-dozen searchers and a California Highway Patrol helicopter," CBS News reported.
"The hiker was actually found in the Tulare County jurisdiction, and that sheriff's office was notified."
Our thoughts are with everyone in these families and friend groups.
May these two rest in peace.
