Journeyman QB Case Keenum was all smiles at his postgame press conference last night after leading the Chicago Bears to a dominant win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Amid his celebrations he decided to take a little dig at the Pro Football Focus analytics group.
During the interview, following a night in which he completed 24 of 34 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns while adding six rushing yards and a TD on the ground, Keenum pointed out that he didn’t take a sack. However, he joked that since there was a sack that was overturned by a penalty, PFF “may count those.”
“No sacks tonight, right? But it was a penalty, right? It didn’t count. PFF may count those, I guess,” Keenum said.
PFF Down Bad
The biggest PFF controversy of the 2026 NFL season began with Caleb Williams’ Week 1 grade. Williams led the Bears to a 59–37 victory over Carolina while accounting for four touchdowns, but PFF gave him a 62.5 grade and ranked him 20th among quarterbacks for the week.
The discrepancy between his statistics and PFF’s evaluation prompted widespread criticism from fans and renewed questions about whether PFF’s grading system adequately accounts for a quarterback’s circumstances and responsibilities on individual plays. PFF defended the grade, explaining that Williams received several elite “double-plus” marks but was also penalized for negative plays, including an interception that was later nullified by a penalty.

The Williams controversy also exposed a broader dispute over PFF’s methodology and its changing corporate structure. Former PFF lead grader Sam Monson publicly criticized the company’s current presentation of its grades, while four-time Pro Bowler Anthony Barr argued that outside graders cannot know every assignment or decision made within an NFL play.
As for Keenum, the 38-year-old quarterback showed that he’s still got the skills to pay the bills despite last night being just his 14th game in the last seven seasons.
