Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck had a chance to lead a game-winning drive against the Indiana Hoosiers in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday night.

Down 27-21, Beck moved the Canes 34 yards down the field in less than a minute, setting up 2nd and 3 with 52 seconds left in the game. Needing a touchdown in the big moment, the 23-year-old quarterback threw an interception that effectively sealed Indiana's 27-21 win and the Hoosiers' first national championship.

As the confetti began to fall at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza looked for a handshake from his opposite quarterback after the epic title game, but Beck went straight to the locker room before they could cross paths.

In the loss, Beck completed 19-of-32 passes for 232 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Fans on social media were quick to notice Beck's decision to leave Mendoza — and any other Indiana coach or player who wanted to tell him "good game" — hanging in the immediate aftermath of the loss.

"Carson Beck walking off without shaking hands and Mendoza chasing him down," pointed out an X user.

"Did I just see Carson Beck ignore Mendoza wanting a handshake?" asked one stunned fan.

"All-time BAD LOOK by Carson Beck walking off the field without shaking Mendoza’s hand," said another post.

"Carson Beck not dapping up Mendoza after this game tells you all you need to know about Carson Beck," wrote a critic.

Beck's quick exit from the field will be the last time college football fans see him, as he used up his sixth and final year of eligibility with Miami's CFP run this season.

Beck is projected by Athlon Sports' Luke Easterling as a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, while Mendoza went No. 1 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders in Easterling's latest mock draft.
