WNBA fans are fed up with a "dirty" elbow from Angel Reese to Sophie Cunningham that was caught on a slow-motion replay during Sunday's game.
The Fever topped the Dream in overtime on Sunday. Atlanta had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but Reese couldn't convert a game-winning layup attempt. The Fever then pulled away in overtime.
However, earlier in the game, the refs missed a clear elbow to the back from Reese to Cunningham. The Indiana Fever guard was shoved to the ground by the elbow. Nothing was called by the refs, though.
"Another Angel Reese foul……no call," the slow-motion replay states on X, formerly known as Twitter.
A harsh elbow like that should at least result in a foul call. However, some fans are calling for even further discipline.
"Look at the ref just standing there. Sophie Cunningham is not going to get a call. I wonder why? That is a push right in the back in front of the ref. The Fever beat the Dream and the refs today," one fan added.
"She is ruining women’s basketball and sowing division. Can her," one fan added.
"Fine her for that," one fan added.
"That referee was right there no further than 10 feet away looking right at the action and still no call! Pathetic!" one fan added.
Others, meanwhile, accused Cunningham of "flopping."
"Flop Flop Flop!!! If Cunningham had been pushed she would have gotten up on fire and gone after Reese, point blank," one fan added.
The Fever, meanwhile, are surging atop the standings
The Fever improved to 23-12 on the season with the victory. Indiana is looking like a top-three team in basketball right now, with Minnesota and Las Vegas also looking like legitimate WNBA Finals contenders.
Indiana will be a tough out come playoff time.
