The Tennessee Titans had their first practice on Saturday following what was the first preseason game of their three-game slate. The Titans were victorious against the San Francisco 49ers, but the game wasn't all that pretty from a statistical standpoint.
Some of the Titans' biggest stars struggled in the contest, including Cam Ward. Ward finished the game with a 5/12 stat line; however, his struggles were quickly turned around at practice.
Cam Ward Has Best Day of Practice Yet

"It was a really good day for quarterback Cam Ward, probably his best day of training camp. Ward completed 21-of-25 passes on Saturday, including five touchdown tosses. Ward threw touchdowns on three straight plays during a period inside the 10-yard line, including two that went to rookie Carnell Tate, and another that went to receiver Elic Ayomanor. In a later team period, Ward connected with receiver Elic Ayomanor on a deep ball, as he left cornerback Alontae Taylor behind for a touchdown. Later, Ward connected with receiver Wan'Dale Robinson for a touchdown in a "Strikezone" period, and it left offensive coordinator Brian Daboll pumping his fist," Jim Wyatt said when discussing Ward's day.
He would add more about Ward's performance, giving him the play of the day that went to Calvin Ridley.
"Perhaps the craziest play of the day was a Ward bomb to receiver Calvin Ridley. In a "Move the Ball, End of Game" period, Ward lofted a bomb in Ridley's direction, and I didn't think it had a chance of being completed. But Ridley got under it, and caught it, with safety Amani Hooker in the vicinity," Wyatt said.
This Couldn't Have Come at a Better Time

This couldn't have come at a better time for both the Titans and Cam Ward. Ward had an underwhelming performance against the 49ers, but if there is one thing to know about the franchise player, it's that he makes it a point to fix his mistakes. He is a hard worker and wants to get better, which is exactly what happened in the first practice following the contest on Thursday.
Not only did the talented quarterback get better, but it seems that he made the defense pay in return. He is continuing to show that he is a player who wants to master his craft, and he is also a player who is above his time when it comes to a mental standpoint. He is the leader that the Titans have needed for many years, and once he can get the offensive scheme down, he will be a dangerous player to test.
