Cam Skattebo has quickly become one of the New York Giants’ most recognizable players, with his physical running style and larger-than-life personality making him a popular figure heading into his second NFL season. After appearing in only eight games as a rookie because of a season-ending ankle injury, Skattebo has returned healthy and has been a regular participant throughout training camp.
The Giants have high expectations for Skattebo after he rushed for 410 yards and five touchdowns while adding 207 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his limited rookie campaign. His aggressive style has been one of the defining characteristics of his game, making Wednesday’s incident during practice particularly noteworthy.

According to New York Post’s Ryan Dunleavy, “the first real intra-squad scuffle” of Giants training camp was started by Skattebo during Wednesday’s practice.
Dunleavy reported that he did not see any punches thrown, while Skattebo was later on the defensive sideline, presumably making amends for his role in the incident. There is also no indication that the incident escalated into anything more serious.
The Giants have been encouraged by Skattebo’s return from the significant ankle injury that ended his rookie season. Under new head coach John Harbaugh, he is expected to play an important role in New York’s backfield this season alongside veteran addition Najee Harris.
His ability to stay healthy and translate his physical rookie-season production into a full campaign could be critical for the Giants’ offense.
The Giants will conclude their preseason at home on Friday against the New York Jets before hosting the Dallas Cowboys to kick off their regular season.
