Cam Schlittler made Yankees history Tuesday night, passing Ron Guidry for the most starts allowing one or zero earned runs in a single season since earned runs became an official statistic in 1913.
The New York Yankees right-hander reached the milestone during a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Yankee Stadium, recording his 20th start of the season with one or zero earned runs.
ESPN Insights highlighted the accomplishment on X as Schlittler continued what has become a remarkable first full season in the Yankees rotation.
Guidry previously held the franchise record with 18 such starts during his legendary 1978 season, when he won the American League Cy Young Award. Schlittler now stands alone at the top of the Yankees’ single-season list.
The 25-year-old right-hander was dominant against Colorado, allowing three hits and one earned run across seven innings. He did not issue a walk and struck out 10 batters on 96 pitches, with his only run allowed coming on a solo home run.
Schlittler’s season has been impressive beyond the record. Through 30 starts, he is 13-6 with a 2.01 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 220 strikeouts over 178.2 innings.
The performance also came at an important point in the Yankees’ season. New York improved to 82-62 with the win and remains in the thick of the American League postseason race.

The Yankees entered Wednesday 4.0 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East while holding the top American League Wild Card position. With Aaron Judge also recently returning from a lengthy rib injury absence, New York is getting key pieces back at the right time.
Schlittler, meanwhile, continues to build a case for the AL Cy Young Award while rewriting a piece of Yankees history once owned by one of the franchise’s greatest pitchers.
