Alec Bohm is batting .224 with a .283 on-base percentage and a .641 OPS, and the Philadelphia Philliesthird baseman was out of Saturday's lineup against the Toronto Blue Jays, interim manager Don Mattingly's latest attempt to manage around one of the worst offensive seasons of Bohm's career.
The 29-year-old has 94 hits, 13 home runs and 62 RBIs across 113 games, with 66 strikeouts. His -1.2 WAR and 71 OPS+ both rank among the worst marks of any everyday player in baseball this season. Bohm is eligible for free agency after the 2026 season, and the timing of his slump could not come at a worse time in his career than now.

The Phillies are 62-56 and sit second in the National League East, still squarely in the postseason race after adding Luis Arraez at the trade deadline. Arraez's arrival pushed Bohm into splitting time at third base with Bryson Stott as well as his time at first base.
Mattingly dropped Bohm to eighth in the order Sunday, and the move has left some Phillies voices wondering how much time Bohm has left.
John Stolnis of The Good Phight has tried to give Bohm the benefit of the doubt in recent weeks, but he has reached a breaking point, along with others.
One fan said, "I’ve been the biggest Bohm defender over the years, but enough is enough. He is just an average baseball player at best. I’ve seen enough. Time to move on."
Another wrote, "There’s no reason for him to be on the team."
"It was very obvious they should have also traded for Taylor Ward and cut ties with Bohm," a fan added.
"He has a negative WAR on the season, he’s worse than a replacement level player. Props to you for trying to be optimistic but he’s hurt the team all year 🤷🏻♂️," said another.
Whether Mattingly is willing to give a longer run for Bohm to figure things out may hinge on how the Phillies hold up down the stretch and how much he's willing to bet on Bohm rediscovering his swing before games start counting for a lot more.
