It's a strange time for Caitlin Clark.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft has been the subject of much controversy and debate, very little of which is of her own doing. Clark has been the subject of racial debates, heated conversations, women's sports theories and more. In fact, a group of U.S. lawmakers have since gotten involved, urging the WNBA to do better.
"Unfortunately, what they too often witness is not simply aggressive competition, but repeated acts of unnecessary physical hostility and violence," the lawmakers wrote in a letter led by U.S. Rep. August Pfluger, the chairman of the Republican Study Committee.
"Clark has been hip-checked, poked in the eye, and struck in the throat during games," the letter stated. "These incidents go far beyond routine physical play, yet the WNBA and its officiating have too often failed to address these unacceptable incidents and hold players accountable."

Clark, to her credit, has made it clear that she condemns all the hatred coming the WNBA's way.
"The harassment, the hate. None of that is OK ..." the two-time WNBA All-Star said. "There should never be question of character like I've always stood up here and said that, and that's truly what I believe, that's how I was raised. So, none of that is okay and I don't want anyone to experience that."
Clark's parents certainly back her.

Clark admitted at the start of her WNBA career that while her parents love the league, they struggle with all the hatred and discourse surrounding it all.
“They see all this stuff, too. You have to remember, we’re regular people with feelings. My parents have feelings. It can definitely be hard at times,” Clark said in an interview with Michael Lee of The Washington Post.
“Honestly, I feel like I have a pretty good skill of blocking everything out. I think being in this position, you better have that skill, or else it’s going to break you at some point.”
Rational WNBA fans seem to agree.
“Crazy fans need to back off and let her play and it would help to take that target off of her back. As long as you keep telling the veterans that they need to appreciate her, and she deserves this and deserves that, while others have put in the time and work and have WNBA championships and MVP awards to show for it, they will keep trying to make their own point. Stop being so fanatical and just let the girl play,” one fan wrote.
Time will tell if the WNBA can get ahold of it all, though.
