Caitlin Clark put on a show for Team USA in her FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup debut on Friday night. The Indiana Fever star turned in a 14-point, 11-assist double-double with three triples to help lead the U.S. to a convincing 94-61 victory over China.
Clark’s 10th assist of the game came late in the fourth quarter. With a little over a minute left in the game, the 6-foot guard shook her defender with a between-the-legs crossover. She then dished out a one-handed pass to Angel Reese, who finished strong under the basket.
Reese’s layup put the Americans ahead 92-59 with 1:04 remaining in the final frame.
Team USA’s dominance was on full display in this one, and it was Clark who orchestrated the offense. The three-time All-Star dished out a game-high 11 assists, while her 14 points were tied with Paige Bueckers and Rhyne Howard for the most in the game. Clark did all this in a team-high 25 minutes off the bench.
Reese, on the other hand, also came off the bench to log 17 minutes of action. The Atlanta Dream forward finished with five points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Clark and Co. will look to keep their foot on the gas in their next game. Their next assignment will be Italy on Sunday before closing out the group stage with a matchup against the Czech Republic on Monday.
Team USA will likely top Group D if they win all three games, which will secure them a spot in the quarterfinals.
