While Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark addressed the media on Sunday, she chose not to weigh in - at least with a strong opinion - on Sophie Cunningham's comments about transgender athletes in women's sports.

"I think it's for leagues and governing bodies to work with their athletes to find solutions," Clark said. "Our focus is on basketball. That's what we talk about and how we can get wins and obviously we didn't do that tonight. So, we need to find an area to improve in that way."

When a reporter pressed Clark for a reaction, she responded, "I just answered."

Cunningham, who is in her second season with the Indiana Fever, believes it's "common sense" to keep transgender athletes out of women's sports.

But as pressure mounts for Clark to make more of a statement, many are coming to her defense.

"Caitlin Clark is under no obligation to be the spokesperson for anyone’s political or social cause. I think there is, to a reasonable degree, a responsibility to be a good role model to young girls and boys and with her platform, and by all reasonable accounts, she has been Trying to pressure or shame someone into an opinion isn’t advocacy, it’s an attempt to control what people say, or not say and stir controversy for clicks. That’s a slippery slop," Rosalina Lee shared on X.

Jemele Hill, meanwhile, agrees

The former ESPN star made it clear that she just wants Clark to address the media, not necessarily give strong opinions.

"Caitlin Clark should not have to answer to something her teammate said. That said, if she is asked the question — a fair one — and opts to say no comment, or I don't have enough information, or a non-answer, that's fine, too. Or if she just says what she feels. These teams do their players a disservice by doing things like this because it creates a bigger story. If y'all don't have her prepped for these moments, what are you even doing?" Hill shared on X.

Well, Clark did exactly that on Sunday night. And that's all she should be asked to do right now.
