Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are fed up with the WNBA's treatment of the superstar point guard.
And for good reason.
Wednesday night, Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas got away with multiple dirty hits on the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Thomas hit Clark in the groin and the neck and was not called for a foul. Clark later exited the game with a back injury.
Following the game, Fever head coach Stephanie White spoke out, urging the WNBA to do better.
She accused the WNBA's referees of failing to officiate Clark in proper fashion.
"Absolutely disrespectful. We have a generational talent and a WNBA superstar who had two cheap shots right there that weren’t called," White said. "It's absolutely egregious, and utterly disrespectful. [Clark] is not called the same way as everybody else is called. The fist in the throat is crazy. It's crazy. It's dangerous."
But does Clark need to do something, too? The No. 1 overall pick out of Iowa is now being urged to get physical back. If the WNBA isn't going to protect Clark, then she needs to protect herself - and perhaps get on the offensive.
Clark urged to start hitting back
The best way to stop a bully is, unfortunately, to get physical back.
"What's also undeniable is this: If the WNBA won't defend Clark, it's time for her to defend herself. It's time for her to start punching back," Fox News wrote on Thursday.
"The time for talking is over. The rest of the league has taken its gloves off. It's time for its biggest star to do the same."
Obviously, Clark shouldn't do anything that will get herself into trouble. But if the WNBA is going to allow this kind of physical, often "dirty" play, then Clark needs to take matters into her own hands, as well.
