Clark still draws the bulk of the defensive attention, but her backcourt pairing with Kelsey Mitchell is emerging as the league's most productive scoring duo. The Fever now turn their attention to a matchup against the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday night.
Clark Weighs In on the World Cup Final
Sunday brought its own headline event elsewhere, with Spain and Argentina meeting in the FIFA World Cup final. Clark got asked about it at practice, and she kept her answer very simple.
"Boring, really boring," Clark said, via The Athletic's James Boyd.
Turns out plenty of people watching felt the same way. Spain ran the show from the opening whistle, finishing with 68% possession to Argentina's 32%, and the shot count told the same story.
20 attempts for Spain, 11 on target, against just three for Argentina, none of which ever really tested the goalkeeper. So why did it take until the 106th minute of extra time for the breakthrough?
Spain dominated the game itself but not the finishing, and Argentina spent most of the match defending for its life rather than threatening anything.
It wasn't exactly a clean watch either as the referee handed out seven yellow cards and a red to Argentina, and two Spain goals got wiped off the board on VAR review. Between the whistles and the reviews, the match never found any real rhythm.
Argentina's only real push came late in extra time, when it finally strung together some pressure, though by then Spain had already made the outcome feel settled.
