Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever played shorthanded against the Chicago Sky on Sunday. Aliyah Boston is dealing with a lower right leg injury and was given the night off. Clark shared her thoughts about the team’s decision to sit the four-time All-Star forward.
Clark stressed that Boston’s absence was big, but she was ready to step up against the Sky. The 6-foot guard added that she embraced the bigger offensive load, leading Indiana to a bounce-back victory after consecutive losses. The team suffered defeats to the Dallas Wings and New York Liberty and had to play a back-to-back set to end its five-game road trip.
“I think I just came in with a mentality of knowing that my team needs me to step up tonight,” Clark said during her postgame interview. “Obviously, AB going down like that, it hurts our team a little bit. So you have to carry a little bit more of the load.

“And I think it’s all about your mentality coming into a back-to-back. You can either be like, ‘Oh, I’m tired. We’ve been on the road this, that,’ or you can buck up and go play basketball and have fun… There’s going to be tough ones, or that we’ve probably felt we could have been a lot better in those last two games that we did lose.
“But more than anything, I looked at it as a positive. Like, we get to go play again. Let’s go win and then we have a couple days off and we have one more (game) before the break. It’s all about how you just view it.”
Clark more than made up for Boston’s absence in the 113-90 win. She finished with 37 points, three rebounds, 10 assists and a career-high eight three-pointers.
Kelsey Mitchell backed her with 30 points, while Lexie Hull and Makayla Timpson recorded 14 and 12, respectively. The Fever will have four days off before they return to action on Friday to host the Connecticut Sun.
