The Indiana Fever have been on a roll as the regular season heads toward its final stretch. A team that spent much of the year simply fighting for playoff position now finds itself in the middle of the championship conversation, and a lot of that shift traces back to the backcourt of Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell.

The two WNBA guards have pushed Indiana’s pace while keeping their efficiency intact, and that combination has carried the Fever up the standings at exactly the right time.

Clark currently sits third in the league in scoring and picked up Eastern Conference Player of the Month honors for June. Mitchell isn’t far behind, sitting second in scoring while leading the WNBA outright in total points with 967, and she took home the conference’s July award.

Together, they’ve given Indiana a level of backcourt production the franchise hasn’t had in years, and it’s changed how the rest of the league views this team heading into the postseason.

Indiana made that case official on Thursday, posting a video on X that gave the pair a nickname to match their production.

“Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, a backcourt duo unlike any we’ve ever seen before in WNBA history,” the team wrote, with the video itself calling the pairing “record-setting, historic, unprecedented” and tagging it “MVP².”

The numbers they highlighted surely back up the hype. Clark and Mitchell have posted matching 20-point games together 16 times this season, passing the mark of 15 that Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter set back in 2008.

They’ve also combined for more 30-point games together than any duo in league history, and Indiana pointed to a 17-game stretch in which the two combined for more points than any pairing has ever produced over that span.

On average, Clark and Mitchell are putting up 46.9 points per game between them, part of a Fever offense scoring 72.5 points per game from the position alone, the most productive backcourt in WNBA history.

With those numbers building throughout the season, Indiana is also on pace to finish with the highest-scoring offense and the best offensive rating the league has ever recorded.
