Caitlin Clark knew exactly what was at stake on Tuesday night. It was a must-win game for the Indiana Fever as they faced elimination against the defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces.
Clark delivered when it mattered most. She was fired up from the opening tip, and the three-time All-Star made sure Indiana’s season wouldn’t end just yet. Clark led the Fever to a 99-89 win in Game 2 with 27 points, seven rebounds, 15 assists and five three-pointers.
Indiana has now tied this series at 1-1 as it heads to Game 3 in Las Vegas on Thursday for a winner-take-all showdown.
Clark spoke to reporters after the game, and she was asked about a rather unfortunate incident at halftime. This was at least the second time this season that the 24-year-old threw up during a game.
“Yeah, that is gross,” Clark admitted. “… I think I was just really tired, and then sometimes I drink too much water.
“Not to be gross back, but it’s an incredible amount of throw-up. So sorry to anybody that’s in the vicinity of that trash can.”
Clark had an incredible first half on Tuesday. She became the first player in WNBA history to record a points-assists double-double in a playoff half. Her 11 assists in a half were also a postseason record.
Despite throwing up at halftime, the Fever superstar kept her foot on the gas in the second half. She became the first player in WNBA history to record 25+ points and 15+ assists in a regular-season or playoff game.
Clark and the Fever will need to do it all over again on Thursday. It all comes down to one game as the winner proceeds to the semifinals to face either the Golden State Valkyries or the Dallas Wings.
Thursday’s tipoff from Michelob ULTRA Arena is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET on USA Network.
