C.J. Stroud is standing behind Marvin Harrison Jr. as the wide receiver begins his Houston Texans tenure under fresh scrutiny.
“He’s a heckuva player,” Stroud said, per KPRC2 reporter Aaron Wilson. “I don’t agree with some of the things people are saying about him.” Stroud added that outside opinions would not affect Harrison unless he let them.
Houston acquired Harrison from the Arizona Cardinals this week, reuniting the former Ohio State teammates. The Texans received Harrison and a 2027 sixth-round pick, while Arizona acquired a 2027 second-rounder and seventh-rounder.
Harrison arrives with plenty to prove. The fourth overall pick in the 2024 draft managed five catches for 85 yards and a touchdown across his first four games this season before Arizona moved him. His production had fallen short of expectations.
Stroud’s support offers a public show of confidence, but Harrison’s work on the field will ultimately shape the conversation. Their college connection gives Houston reason to believe they can build chemistry quickly, although NFL defenses present a different challenge, with expectations now squarely on the new pairing.
The Texans are preparing for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Harrison is expected to make his Houston debut, giving the offense another option alongside receiver Nico Collins. The matchup gives Stroud an early chance to test the partnership.

Houston enters the international contest at 1-4 after earning its first win, a 26-3 victory over the Tennessee Titans. The Texans need to build on that result, and integrating Harrison could help their passing game find greater consistency.
Stroud cannot silence every critic with a quote. His message makes clear, however, that Harrison has his support as the receiver starts over in Houston. Sunday’s debut will provide the first evidence of whether the reunion can translate confidence into production.
