Minnesota Twins star Byron Buxton is facing a difficult decision as he continues dealing with a hip issue that will eventually require surgery.

Despite that reality, Buxton is not ready to shut things down just yet. The 32-year-old is continuing daily treatment and hopes to return if the Twins can remain in the postseason picture.

The latest update came from Buxton himself in an interview shared by Bobby Nightengale Jr. and later circulated on X by Baseball Is Dead. Buxton acknowledged that surgery is coming but made clear that he plans to keep pushing until his body tells him otherwise.

“I’m going to go until it sparks me up again,” Buxton said. “Then I’ll know, ‘All right, it’s time, bro.’ Until then, I’m just going to keep fighting.”

Buxton has been one of Minnesota’s most important players when healthy this season, making his recent injury situation particularly frustrating for both him and the organization.

The veteran center fielder has appeared in 93 games, batting .254 with 25 home runs and 46 RBIs. However, the hip problem has significantly limited his availability and production since late July.

Minnesota placed Buxton on the injured list after the issue worsened, and his eventual return will depend heavily on whether the Twins can stay competitive over the final weeks of the regular season.

The Twins entered the stretch run still chasing a postseason spot, sitting within striking distance of the American League Wild Card race.

That leaves Buxton in a difficult position. Surgery could provide him with a clearer path toward a healthy offseason, but ending his season now would mean stepping away while Minnesota still has something to play for.

For now, Buxton appears determined to delay that decision. He will continue treatment and monitor how his hip responds before deciding whether he can safely ramp up his baseball activities.

The Twins, meanwhile, will have to prepare for either possibility as the season reaches its final month.
