Caleb Wilson hasn’t played an official NBA game yet, but the Chicago Bulls rookie is already getting some valuable practice winning over his new fanbase.
Wilson, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, made an appearance at Bulls Fest in Chicago on Saturday and ended up sharing a memorable moment with a group of fans. The NBA’s official X account posted video of Wilson interacting with the crowd, and the 20-year-old looked perfectly comfortable embracing his new city.
“#4 overall pick Caleb Wilson shares a fun moment with a group of fans at Bulls Fest,” the NBA wrote.
It’s only August. The real basketball is still weeks away. But after a 31-win season, Bulls fans are searching for reasons to get excited again.
Wilson might be the biggest one.
Caleb Wilson Is Already Embracing Chicago
Bulls Fest is Chicago’s annual two-day celebration outside the United Center, featuring basketball, entertainment and appearances from members of the organization.
For Wilson, Saturday offered another opportunity to connect with the people who will soon be watching him play inside the arena.
The Bulls selected the 6-foot-9 forward fourth overall after his lone season at North Carolina. He averaged 19.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.2 blocks for the Tar Heels, establishing himself as one of college basketball’s most productive freshmen.
Chicago is hoping those skills translate quickly.
Wilson also provided Bulls fans with an early preview during NBA Summer League. His performances included a 19-point outing against the Utah Jazz, and his athleticism and versatility gave Chicago a glimpse of why the franchise invested such a valuable pick in him.
The basketball evaluation will continue throughout training camp and the preseason.
Saturday was about something else.
Bulls Need Caleb Wilson To Become A Building Block
There is a reason Wilson’s arrival has generated so much attention in Chicago.
The Bulls finished the 2025-26 season 31-51, placing fourth in the Central Division. That difficult season ultimately put Chicago in position to land Wilson near the top of the draft.
Now comes the important part.
Wilson joins a young core that includes Matas Buzelis and Noa Essengue, giving the Bulls several intriguing forwards to develop as the franchise attempts to establish a new direction.
Wilson won’t be expected to solve everything immediately. He’s 20 years old and hasn’t played a second of regular-season NBA basketball. There will be mistakes, adjustments and plenty of learning once the games begin.
But moments like Saturday’s still matter.
Star players can build relationships with cities long before they become finished products on the court. Wilson was smiling, interacting with fans and seemingly enjoying every second of his first Bulls Fest.
Chicago will eventually judge its new No. 4 pick by points, rebounds, wins and losses.
For now, Wilson is doing pretty well in another category.
He’s making friends.
