The Buffalo Bills will have a new defensive play-caller for the 2026 season, but some of their personnel will remain the same.
Damar Hamlin has been with the Bills since 2021, compiling 185 total tackles, nine pass break-ups, two interceptions and a forced fumble. Unfortunately, the most-talked about moment from his career came in Jan. 2, 2023 when he experienced cardiac arrest on the field against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Despite going through such a scary situation, Hamlin was medically cleared for action and returned to the gridiron in 2023. One year later, he started in 14 games and racked up the best numbers of his career.
There was some speculation that Hamlin could leave the Bills this offseason since he entered the new league year as a free agent. However, he officially agreed to a one-year deal with Buffalo this Friday.

Even though Hamlin's story has been incredible, some Bills fans aren't exactly thrilled that he's returning. They apparently wanted general manager Brandon Beane to shake up the secondary.
"You know what.. gave Beane an A grade up until now… this pick has dropped it to a C+," a Bills fan said.
"We done blaming McDermott now lol Beane should get fired," a second fan commented.
"I kind of thought we were done with the nice guy nonsense as well as the slow retreads on D? Guess not. Welcome back I guess," another fan replied.
"Now that mcdermott is gone we will stop bringing back these mediocre defensive guys no one wants," a social media user wrote.
Are the Bills trending in the right direction?
The biggest move the Bills made this offseason was firing Sean McDermott and replacing him with former offensive coordinator Joe Brady. They immediately upgraded his offensive personnel by acquiring wide receiver D.J. Moore in a trade with the Chicago Bears.
Buffalo also bolstered its pass rush by signing Bradley Chubb to a three-year, $43.5 million deal with $29 million guaranteed. If he's healthy, he'll provide a huge spark for Brady's defense. That unit also added a pair of defensive backs in Dee Alford and C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
There's no question the Bills have what it takes to be in the playoffs. Can they finally get over the final hurdle though? We'll find out next season.
