The past two years have seen Bryson DeChambeau get closer and closer to claiming his first Masters title at Augusta. But one bad hole might have just dashed his chances of even making the cut, let alone win a green jacket.
On the front nine, DeChambeau managed to keep things simple. He had a bogey on the second hole that was immediately offset by a birdie on the third and finished the first nine holes with a score of 36, an overall par. A par on the 10th kept him in the top-25 as he began the back-nine.
Then it all unraveled on one hole.

The Nightmare on 11
At the 11th hole, DeChambeau found himself in a bunker that he simply could not escape from. It took him several extra shots before he was finally able to get onto the green. DeChambeau finally managed to get the ball in the cup after needing a whopping seven shots, giving him a triple-bogey to end that nightmare of a hole.
DeChambeau would record two more bogeys and a birdie to finish with a score of 76, putting him at four over par and right on the edge of the cut line heading into tomorrow's round.
But even if he recovers, it may not be enough to get his name on the Masters trophy. In the modern history of the Masters, no one has ever managed to claim the title after recording a triple bogey in any round of the tournament.
It remains to be seen what the cut line will be tomorrow but it's clear that DeChambeau needs to have a flawless round to simply avoid being sent home tomorrow night. As far as his dream of winning the Masters goes, that might be out the window.
After a single round of the tournament, DeChambeau is a whopping nine strokes back from clubhouse leaders Sam Burns and Rory McIlroy. Several more golfers either scored below a 70 or are poised to by the end of the day.
