The Cleveland Browns have drafted three quarterbacks in the past two seasons, as Taylen Green was added in the sixth round in 2026 after the team selected both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders in 2025.
We’ve seen the Browns have a turnstile at the quarterback position, basically every season since 1999, with several high-round draft picks flaming out, and big-time free-agent signings or trades, like the one which brought Deshaun Watson to Cleveland, fail to live up to the hype. His size had NFL scouts hyped heading into the 2026 NFL Draft.
Green Might be Diamond in the Rough
Green started his collegiate career at Boise State, where he saw significant action in 2022 and 2023, throwing for 3,794 yards, 25 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, while running for 1,022 yards and 19 scores.
In 2024, Green took his talents to Fayetteville, and the University of Arkansas. His best college season, in terms of passing yardage, was actually in 2024, throwing for 3,154 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He ran for 1,379 yards with 16 more TDs in his final two seasons as a Razorback, meaning he rushed for at least eight scores in each of his four collegiate seasons for two teams.

While Green has the physical tools and potential to make him an intriguing player in the NFL, there just currently aren’t enough reps for him in training camp, as Deshaun Watson and Sanders battle for the starting job. Gabriel is also in the mix, and seeing time under center, whenever the two starting contenders are in there.
Head coach Todd Monken is a big fan of Green, who saw some reps in practice on Tuesday:
“That dude is smart as heck. To go out there and function…we hardly give him any reps. I mean, I love that dude. It’s just hard. You got four guys. It’s hard to get more reps. We got him on the perimeter one time, which is what you gotta do…down there in the red zone,” Monken said. “All he does is work, smile on his face…I mean, I’m happy we got him, just hard to fit him in with the rep count.”
It wouldn’t be surprising to see Green get some extensive work in the final preseason game, giving Cleveland fans a glimpse of the future. We could also see some special packages for Green in season, if the situation dictates. We’ll see. But, Green could be the most underrated rookie, ending up being the young quarterback Cleveland has been seeking for decades.
