The Cleveland Browns were once against busy during the mid-week period, signing free-agent running back Jaret Patterson to the practice squad on Wednesday. He is currently the only running back listed on the team’s practice squad.
Patterson starred at the University of Buffalo, and he was signed as an undrafted free-agent by the Washington Commanders ahead of the 2021 season. He appeared in 17 games with Washington in his rookie season, rushing 68 times for 266 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 3.9 yards per carry, and he had a total of 15 first downs, too. He also secured 10 receptions for 73 yards on 11 targets, while moving the chains five more times through the air.
Patterson is Currently the Only Running Back on the Practice Squad
The Browns jettisoned former New York Giants running back Eric Gray earlier in the week, so there was a need for running back on the practice squad.
In 2022, Patterson was limited to just three games and 17 carries with Washington, accruing 78 rushing yards. He didn’t appear in an NFL game again until 2024, when he resurfaced for one game with the Los Angeles Chargers, but he was limited to special teams. In 2025, he appeared in six games with the Bolts, running 41 times for 159 yards and a touchdown, the third of his NFL career, while he had a career-high 22-yard run during that season, while adding seven more first downs.
Practice Squad Refresher – Who is Currently on the Roster?

As it stands right now, the Browns have the following players on the practice squad, which continues to change every week:
Linebacker Krys Barnes, cornerback Myles Bryant, cornerback Michael Coats Jr., offensive tackle Obinna Eze, defensive end Logan Fano, tight end John FitzPatrick, wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr., defensive tackle Sam Kamara, offensive tackle KT Leveston, defensive tackle Zion Logue, wide receiver Bub Means, Patterson, wide receiver James Proche II, defensive end Khordae Sydnor, defensive end Nadame Tucker, safety Zion Washington and defensive tackle Chris Williams currently comprise the active practice squad roster.
In addition to the active practice squad roster, linebacker Nathaniel Watson is on the practice squad reserve/injured list at the moment.
Heading into Week 5 against the New York Jets, the recently re-signed Proche has a good chance at elevation if wide receiver/kick returner Tylan Wallace (knee) is forced to miss a second straight game due to injury. He knows the system, and could help out on special teams.
