Browns Being Urged To Release Deshaun Watson Before Week 1

The Deshaun Watson era just keeps on getting worse for the Cleveland Browns.

Back in March 2022, the Browns traded three first-round picks in order to acquire Watson from the Houston Texans. He has only appeared in 19 games since that trade, completing 61.2% of his passes for 3,365 yards with 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. That's not going to cut it for a quarterback on a five-year, $230 million contract.

Unfortunately for the Browns, it doesn't sound like Watson is turning the corner this summer.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Watson threw his ninth interception in the last 12 practices. His turnover during Tuesday's practice session seems to be a risky throw into double coverage.

Shortly after footage of Watson's interception was released online, NFL fans urged the Browns to part ways with him.

"Just cut him already," one fan said.

"Simply have never seen a player fall from grace this hard before. He’s terrible," a second fan commented.

"Continuing to employ this dude who is also bad at football is quite the choice," another fan wrote.

"This is getting sad," a fan added. "Enough of Deshaun Watson!"

Cutting Deshaun Watson is impossible for the Browns.

Despite his struggles in training camp, Watson's status with the Browns is safe. After all, the team would take on $40.95 million in dead money if they cut him.

At this point, the Browns have to either hope Watson magically turns back the clock or he's replaced by Shedeur Sanders.

It's also entirely possible the Browns know they'll have to wait until 2027 for their answer at quarterback.
