Bronny James is entering Year 3 with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The 21-year-old guard, drafted in the second round in 2024, has played in 69 regular season games over two seasons. He showed a little bit of growth in 2025-26, averaging 2.9 points and 1.2 assists per game.
Bronny James remains with the Lakers, while his dad, LeBron James, left for the 76ers in free agency. The Lakers appear to be committed to giving Bronny James a shot, without his dad in the picture – for now, anyway.
Monday night, Bronny James made his preseason debut. It did not go very well. Bronny James had a rough shooting night and made a bad turnover.

Bronny James played 16 minutes in a 127-103 win over the Sacramento Kings. His stat line was pretty rough, though:
- 1 for 5 from the field
- 3 points
- 2 assists
- 1 turnover
- 1 block
“This kid inherited a lot of athletic gifts from his father. And. He is not a good basketball player. Feel and ball skills are just not there,” one fan wrote.
One added: “Bronny should’ve been a 4 year D1 mid major player getting on ball reps in high leverage situations to develop. Instead he was rushed out for reasons and now this is the result.”
Bronny James was a five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American, though it’s fair to wonder if he would’ve had those accolades if he was not LeBron’s son.
Regardless, he’s shown some promise as an NBA player, and it’s still early in his career, but it’ll be interesting to see if the Lakers give him any room to grow now that his dad isn’t around.
