The Denver Broncos are in an interesting spot through six weeks of play. The team has a solid 4-2 record, but the offense has been very underwhelming, to the point where some wonder if Bo Nix will soon be benched.
The team has only scored more than 20 points twice, and they’ve only crossed 30 once. Only four teams average fewer passing yards per game, and only six average fewer rushing yards per game.
The defense has kept this team alive and is a good enough unit to ensure this team is still a contender. However, it’s hard to imagine another deep playoff run if the offense keeps playing the way it has. Can the unit suddenly take a step forward, or will an outside addition or two have to be made?
If the Broncos want a game changing offensive addition, they should look to Philadelphia.
Saquon Barkley Would Reinvigorate Denver’s Offense
All has not gone according to plan for the Eagles this season. The team has struggled to a 2-4 record, Jalen Hurts is out for the year, Cam Jurgens was traded, and Lane Johnson suddenly retired, among other issues.
As a result, the Eagles seem like clear deadline sellers. If that’s the case, it will be interesting to see if Saquon Barkley is moved. The star is under contract for two more seasons, so they don’t have to move him, but his value might not get any higher.
Ethan Woodie of NFL Trade Rumors recently identified the Broncos as one of the best fits for Barkley. The Broncos’ ground game has been among the league’s worst, and Barkley would help out there and in the passing game.
“This team is not good at running the football, even compared to their overall offensive struggles this season,” Woodie said of the Broncos. “Barkley is everything the Broncos are missing, and offering (Jonah) Coleman up as part of the return could give them a leg up on the competition.”
As Woodie mentioned, the Broncos could be willing to include the rookie Coleman in a Barkley package. Coleman has only played in two games due to injury, but his upside could be intriguing.
So far in 2026, Barkley has rushed for 182 yards, but he’s yet to score a touchdown. The veteran star is currently battling a hamstring injury, but assuming he gets healthy, he’d be a huge help to any offense.
Having Barkley around would take a ton of pressure off of Nix. If the Broncos are serious about getting back to the Super Bowl, this is the kind of move they should be willing to make.
