Connecticut Sun star Brittney Grinercemented herself in the WNBA history books after recording four blocks against the Chicago Sky on Monday.
Griner, who also scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Sun to a 92-63 blowout win, officially surpassed Margo Dydek (877 blocks) for the WNBA's all-time blocks record. The Sun center now has 878 blocks in her career.
The 35-year-old center is now averaging nearly two blocks per game. She's on track to become the first player to reach 900 blocks this season and could potentially hit the 1,000-block mark by 2027 if she extends her career.
Following her record-breaking feat, the WNBA celebrated Griner's achievement. The league made posts on Tuesday and Wednesday to highlight the new record, writing in one post, "Her legacy is cemented."
Griner's wife, Cherelle Griner, couldn't help but comment on the WNBA's posts. She didn't hide her delight for the 10-time All-Star and expressed how proud she is of her.
"So proud of you baby!!!" the 33-year-old lawyer stated. In the WNBA's other post, Griner's wife added, "Congrats baby."
Brittney Griner and Cherelle Griner met in college at Baylor University. They got married in 2019 and welcomed their first child together, a son named Raymond Bash, in 2024.
Griner's wife has been with her and supported her even through the toughest of times, particularly when she was detained in Russia.
Now, as Griner continues her WNBA career and looks to make more history in the pros, her partner clearly remains as supportive as ever.
