Brittney Griner still can't believe what she accomplished during the Connecticut Sun's 92-63 blowout win against the Chicago Sky on Monday.
Griner entered the game with 874 blocks over her 13 active years in the WNBA. She needed four blocks to surpass Margo Dydek's all-time record of 877 blocks. However, considering that she was averaging 1.6 blocks prior to the contest, it seemed unlikely that she would break the record against the Sky.
Interestingly, Griner recorded exactly four blocks for the Sun, along with a team-high 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Her fourth block of the game came against Kamilla Cardoso in the third quarter, as she rejected the Sky center's fadeaway jumper near the basket.

After the game, Griner took to social media to express her disbelief that she's now No. 1 in blocks in WNBA history.
"Number one in blocks is wild yo. Truly blessed to keep playing the game I love," Griner wrote on Threads.
It's certainly a special moment for Griner. After all, as the 35-year-old center said postgame, the blocks record is something that she had been "chasing" her whole career. That said, she was "super excited" to finally achieve the milestone.
Now, Griner has a chance to add to her blocks tally and separate herself from the rest of the pack. The closest active player behind her is A'ja Wilson, who has 568 blocks at the time of writing.
Since Griner is averaging nearly two blocks per game, she's on track to become the first WNBA player ever to reach 900 career blocks.
