The WNBA may have to consider ditching its plans for its "USA 250" celebratory patches.
Several sports leagues, including the NBA, have agreed to wear "USA 250" patches on their uniforms to commemorate America's 250th birthday. This was part of a partnership that Fanatics struck with President Donald Trump. There have been rumblings about the WNBA debuting the "USA" 250 patches at the All-Star Game on July 25.
Las Vegas Aces forward Brianna Turner, who happens to be the treasurer for the players association, isn't fond of this idea due to America's history of slavery.
"Whoever called for the WNBA all star uniforms to have the USA 250 patch should have thought that through considering no WNBA players would have been free 250 years ago," she wrote on X. "The majority wouldn’t even have their freedom 100 years ago."
Turner, who earned All-Defensive honors twice in her career, wasn't done offering her two cents on this subject.
"Yesss I know this was probably a financial decision at the end of the day but still. We are some of the most elite female athletes 250 years ago we would have been breeders or in the fields working all day. Be so serious rn."

Is the WNBA officially adopting these commemorative patches?
Despite reports about the WNBA adding these patches to their 2026 All-Star jerseys, the league isn't ready to make a firm commitment just yet.
"Like other major sports leagues, we are exploring how best to commemorate the country’s 250th anniversary," the WNBA said, via Sportico. "Nothing has been finalized at this time."
We'll keep a close eye on this situation, that's for sure.
